History of Business: Ask owner Julie Silva-Rodrigues to describe her downtown antique shop, Her Royal Highness – Vintage Chic and she can tell you the exact look for which she is going.

“It’s definitely a tailored look. It’s romantic, but it’s polished and clean,” she said. “I didn’t want the cluttered look a lot of antique shops have.”

Within its four walls, Her Royal Highness – Vintage Chic offers a range of items for everyone from the veteran antique shopper to those looking for a handmade gift: crocheted items, hand soaps, home décor accent pieces, dog accessories, and even a whole room devoted to children’s clothes, some of which is handmade.

“We really have a little bit of everything,” said Silva-Rodrigues. “We keep it local. We don’t buy into the big consumerism.”

There is also a wide selection of repurposed furniture, 90 percent of which Silva-Rodrigues creates herself, a craft she began five years ago. After starting to sell some items on her own, Silva-Rodrigues expanded to have a booth in Ritzy Ragz and Thingz, another vintage shop that recently closed its downtown Turlock doors. Sensing a need to expand prior to the store’s closing, she purchased the North Thor Street location and opened shop in November. According to Silva-Rodriques, so far so good.

“We’re big on Facebook so that has brought a lot of people in,” she said.
