A child playing in front of her Keyes home wandered out of view and stepped into the path of a slow-moving truck Monday night, resulting in fatal injuries, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The child was identified as 18-month-old Annaliy Lopez.

According to CHP Officer Eric Parsons, Annaliy was playing in the front yard of her home in the 4700 block of Saundra Court around 6:40 p.m., when a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe with a trailer attached pulled up alongside the home.

The Tahoe was driven by 24-year-old David Carillo Garcia of Turlock. Garcia is a friend of the Lopez family, Parsons said.

Garcia only stopped for a short moment before beginning to drive westbound on Saundra Court, unaware the little girl had walked to the front of his vehicle.

Garcia was only going approximately 3 mph to 5 mph when Annaliy was struck.

The child was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The CHP is conducting an investigation into the fatal accident, but at this point it does not appear as if drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor, Parsons said.
