Turlock's last remaining lumber company closed its doors, as Valley Distributors is no longer in business.

The company, which started as a lumber yard in 1967 and grew to be a full-service hardware and building store ran by current president Danny Vierra, was a popular destination for professional contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners alike.

The closing of the Paulson Road site was unexpected and was announced on the company's Facebook page on Jan. 25: "With great sadness and regret, we announce that we have closed our doors for the final time this past Friday. Thank all of you for 48 years of friendships and memories! We wish each of our longtime and loyal employees the very best."

Many loyal customers expressed their sadness of the company's closing on the social media site.

"As a builder customer I am sorry to see this come about. My opinion is that it was always the customer, service and product. There has been a lot of time and history there," wrote Bob Bullock.

"This was the 'go to place' for great customer service. It felt so comfortable and the product was always top notch. I'm sad to see this, but what a great 48 years to be proud of in the community," wrote Traci Jacobazzi.

While calls to the store reach only a recorded message announcing Valley Distributors' closing, a response to the comments made on the company's Facebook page was left: "We cannot begin to thank you enough for the kind words, wishes and prayers. It has been a true privilege to have you all as customers and friends. We have enjoyed serving the community these past 48 years. God Bless each of you in your endeavors. We will miss Valley Distributors immensely. Peace to its memories."
