Multiple agencies helped Keyes Fire extinguish a Saturday afternoon blaze that razed some empty structures, fencing and threatened multiple others.

The fire broke out at approximately 3:30 p.m. in an abandoned garage on a vacant property in the 4700 block of Norma Way. The fire quickly spread to dry grasses and threatened numerous homes on Norma and Tanya ways and Isabella Avenue but none were damaged. Firefighters remained on scene for hours to extinguish hot spots. At least one firefighter was treated by paramedics for heat exhaustion.

Keyes Fire responded with two fire engines, a water tender, and two chiefs. Other agencies that assisted with engines were Ceres, Hughson, Denair, Turlock, Modesto, Patterson, West Stanislaus and Burbank Paradise fire departments. Westport and Turlock Rural fire departments provided water tenders.
