Musical version of ‘Little Women’ to be performed in Merced
Little Women
An adaptation of “Little Women” will be staged by Playhouse Merced from May 3 to 19.

Playhouse Merced is opening a three-week run of the Broadway musical “Little Women” on May 3.

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel about four sisters growing up during the Civil War, the musical is a captivating look at their adventures as they share, heartaches they experience, and love they gain for each other during the difficult time of a nation divided and at war.  As each of the four sisters explore the world around them and develop a stronger sense of their own identities, Jo—the second oldest of the sisters—documents their lives under the guidance and strength of their mother.

This musical adaptation of “Little Women” first hit the Broadway stage in 2005 and has since become a popular show in theaters throughout the country.  Music is by Jason Howland, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and the book adaption is by Allan Knee.

The Playhouse Merced cast features Cossette Asenjo as Jo and Jenni Samuelson as Marmee under the direction of Dusty Guthier.

“Little Women” runs at Playhouse Merced May 3 through May 19 with performances at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets are available at playhousemerced.com, by calling 725-8587, or at the Playhouse Merced box office at 452 W. Main Street.  Tickets are $22 for adults, with $10 student tickets available at the box office.  This show is suitable for the entire family and is suggested for ages five and up.
