Donald Malcom Chittock, 62, died at his Turlock home surrounded by loved ones.  He succumbed to complication from an industrial accident which curtailed the last nine years of his life.

He was born to Carrol and Lorene Chittock in Orange, CA.  At age 6 his family moved to Turlock where his father became Turlock’s first full time fire chief.

Don rose to the rank of Eagle Scout and acquired a love of camping and outdoors as a youth.  He graduated from Turlock High School in 1970 and then attended Columbia Junior College.

In that same year he went to work for Varco Pruden, a prefabricating building firm.  Over a 30 year career, he came to supervise shipping and receiving there.

He married Rebecca Dunn in 1983 and became dad to Randy, then 3. Becky and Don were later divorced.

While working at the Port of Stockton in 2005, Don sustained injuries in a forklift accident which forced him on disability.  He continued making functional or decorative items as an accomplished wood craftsman. Whenever he could get a chance, he headed for the Sierra foothills to hunt and fish.

Don was preceded in death by his father Carrol and mother Lorene Chittock and by his son Randy.  He is survived by his step-mother Diane Chittock of Turlock, his sister Nancy (Scott) Morris of Sonora, a brother Steve (Cheri) Chittock of Beaverton, OR, step-brother Richard Foster of Berkeley, step-sisters Melissa Foster of Salinas and Nanette (Les) Austin of Turlock.  He also leaves a devoted group of nieces and nephews: niece Jamie (Nicholas) of Vallejo and Amanda Morris of Turlock, Mackenzie (Calvin) Slayton of Hawaii and Jessica Austin of Turlock.  Nephews; Scott (Heather) Morris Jr. of Illinois, Tobias and Brent Chittock of OR. and Brian Austin of Turlock.
