Elizabeth M. Barrett, 80, formerly of Turlock and Modesto died on October 23 after an extended period of declining health. Liz was born, raised and married in Lowell, MA. She and her husband, Tom lived for a time in East Lansing, MI and then in Stanford, CA before settling in Turlock as one of the founding families of the new Stanislaus State College (now known as CSU Stanislaus). Liz was a member of the SSC faculty Wives Club, and the Turlock 20 Ands, but she is probably best remembered in Turlock for her tireless support of children at Turlock Aquatic Club swim meets, and with the Girl Scouts. After relocating to Modesto, Liz earned an Associates degree from MJC; and she worked for many years as a Medical Tech at the Medi-Cal Field Office in Modesto. She had a genuine and continuing interest in cooking, but her real devotion was to her family. Liz (sometimes called “Flo”) enjoyed lifelong friendships with friends from Turlock and Modesto, the Cal State Stanislaus Community, and the Medi-Cal Field Office. After retiring, Liz and Tom returned to Massachusetts and settled in Duxbury, a seaside community situated midway between Boston and Cape Cod.

Liz was predeceased by her son, Richard. She is survived by her husband Tom of Duxbury; her daughter Cathy Foley of Scituate, MA; her sons Fred of Modesto, CA and Dennis of West Valley City, UT; and 6 grandchildren. Liz’s remains will be interred at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lowell, MA on Nov. 20 in a graveside service.
