James H. Tate
March 11, 2013
c7978 1

Jim passed away peacefully Monday night with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Tate of Turlock, and 3 daughters; Debra Downing of Turlock, Susanne Salyer of Turlock, and Maureen Goldsmith of Atwater. He has 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a brother, Jerry Tate, of Macon, MO.
Jim retired from the Turlock Police Dept. 20 years ago in which he served as an outstanding reserve officer and parking enforcement officer. He served his country while in the Army. Following in the footsteps of his father-in-law, he became a lifelong member of the Masons. Jim was also a member of the American Legion Post 88, and Veterans of Foreign War Post 5059. After Jim’s retirement, he wanted to continue with his civic duties, stay busy, and volunteered to take on some very special projects. One of the most memorable projects he spearheaded was the Arch Gates of the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds into a historical landmark and built a monument in honor of its history. His philosophy was, “Without knowing history, there is no future.”
James was a fun-loving, friendly, warmhearted, caring man. He was the “Hero” of his family and highly respected by everyone he came in contact with.
