Melvin Wilson, Sr., 77, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on Tuesday. He was born in Liberty County, S.C. to the late William H. and Lula Wilson. He grew up and attended school in Liberty County. In 1952, Melvin met his lifetime partner, Joy Williamson of San Francisco at the San Jose skating rink and they married the following year.

From his early years, Melvin enjoyed a variety of interests: fishing, camping, dirt bike riding, playing cards, home cooking, and spending time with family and friends.  His family has fond memories of his wit and humor. Melvin was a journeyman, having worked for 30 years in construction.

Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joy Wilson; and children, Barbara Hicks of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Vickie (Robert) Shirley of Acampo, Calif., Melvin Wilson, Jr. of Modesto and Charles Wilson of Ripon. He will always be known as Papa to 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Our husband, brother, father, uncle, papa and friend will be truly missed. In heaven, he joins his parents and brothers: William Wilson, Charles Wilson and Thomas Carl Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Allen Mortuary. Please leave memories and condolences at www.allenmortuary.com.
