Turlock High boys soccer snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over El Capitan High at home Wednesday night in the first Central California Conference match of the season.

“We were looking forward to the start of league for a while now. We were playing really well and were anxious to get going,” head coach Doug Sperry said. “This is kind of the first time we’ve seen them, so we didn’t go in with a lot of expectations. We just tried to stay focused and play our game.”

The Gauchos (3-5-1 Overall; 0-1 CCC) struck first with a goal in the first 15 minutes of the match and entered the half with a 1-0 lead, but the Bulldogs (7-4-1 Overall; 1-0 CCC) stormed back in the second half with four unanswered goals. Senior captain Marcus Decouto scored the first goal for Turlock, which was followed almost immediately by a Samuel Padilla score. Decouto again found the goal later in the match before assisting Eduardo Zamora with the final goal of the night.

Turlock will play at home once again Wednesday when its boys host Atwater High.

“They’re always good and well coached and ready to play,” Sperry said. “It’s always a tough match when we play Atwater.”
