Denair High's homecoming football game versus Gustine proved to be a defensive struggle for the Coyotes as they fell 6-12.

Denair started off strong, keeping possession of the ball most of the first quarter, but never made it to the endzone.

The Coyotes’ momentum ran into the second quarter with Nathaniel Peral, catching a long pass by quarterback Anthony Pineda. However, the Reds’ defense kept them out of the endzone.

Izaiahs Plasencia got an interception at their 18-yard line. This would, however, in an ironic turn of events, land the ball back in the Reds’ possession after a rushing play resulted in a fumble in the Gustine’s favor. Ultimately, the Reds scored a field goal while there was 7 seconds left until halftime, resulting in a score of 0-3.

The score got tied up in the third quarter when Gustine’s Alejandro Lugo scored a field goal and then Isaac Villa Martinez put the Coyotes on the scoreboard, ending the quarter 6-6.

With only 43 seconds left on the clock, the Reds’ Gio Torres scored his team’s first touchdown of the night, dashing Denair’s homecoming victory dreams, with a final score of 12-6.
