Hilmar High placed third in team standings at Saturday's Trans Valley League Championships and qualified eight of its ten active wrestlers for the Divisional Championships.

Of the eight who finished top-four in their respective weight classes, Cody Rentfro (170) finished first while Gabriel Aguilar (182), Wyatt Amaral (132) and Alfredo Delgadillo (138) each finished second.

“I was planning on Cody and Wyatt being in the finals. I wasn't sure about Freddy Delgadillo, although I knew he had the ability to be there,” Hilmar head coach Bruce Scott said. “And then Gabe was actually the surprise for us in the tournament.”

Tommy Dias (120), Travis Hittesdorf (106) and Vital Verissimo (113) placed third and Kelby Peres (145) placed fourth and will also be headed to the Divisional Championships.

Having struggled through TVL dual meets due to its limited roster, Hilmar used Saturday's TVL Championships, which it hosted, as a chance to not only vindicate its record, but to also reinforce confidence in its wrestlers.

“We felt like that would be our place if we wrestled well; we would end up in third,” Scott said. “With so many holes through the season, it was near impossible to keep up with Ripon and Escalon.”

Now, with the approaching post-season, Hilmar no longer has to worry about filling a roster for duals. Instead, it will look to advance as many individuals as possible with Rentfro and Amaral leading the pack in terms of Masters hopefuls.
