A mother and her 2-year-old son were struck by a car Sunday night on Lander Avenue.

The 2-year-old boy sustained what initially appeared to be life-threatening injuries to his head and was transported by air ambulance to UC Davis hospital. At the hospital it was determined he had lacerations on his face and head and was treated and released.

The 21-year-old mother did not sustain any injuries from the accident, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The mother and child were crossing Lander Avenue at a crosswalk when a sedan traveling northbound on Lander struck the rear tire of the bicycle.

The child was sitting in a child safety seat that was attached behind the bike seat.

The 32-year-old woman driving the vehicle cooperated with officers. She was not injured and alcohol and drugs were not considered a factor in the collision, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The collision remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
