Cattle rustlers hit Hilmar

A Hilmar dairy is on high alert after thieves stole 26 calves over a two week period.

The latest theft of 16 calves were stolen sometime in the early morning hours of Monday from a dairy on August Avenue, near Central Avenue.

The same dairy was hit July 1 and lost 10 calves.

A neighboring farm had 20 bales of hay stolen Monday morning as well.

All of the stolen Jersey calves are about  one month old and have an estimated value of $1,000 each.

Typically, older heifers are micro-chipped, but the younger ones are marked with plastic ties.
