CHP suspects DUI in Turlock collision
emergency

A collision in Turlock seriously injured a Newman teenager and led to the arrest of a Delhi man on allegations of drunk driving.

The collision happened around 4 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Harding and Washington roads, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Jose Borba, 56, of Delhi was driving a 2010 Toyota Tundra westbound on Harding Road. Borba had stopped at a posted stop sign at the intersection of Harding and Washington.

Guadalupe Maldonado, 19, of Newman was driving a 2012 Honda Civic northbound on Washington. Traffic on Washington does not have a posted stop sign and has the right of way at the intersection.

Just as Maldonado was approaching the intersection, Borba drove his Toyota directly into her path. Maldonado had no time to avoid the Toyota and the two vehicles collided.

Maldonado was traveling at an estimated speed of 58 miles per hour, according to the CHP.

The impact of the collision caused major injuries to Maldonado and Borba. Both were rushed to Doctors Medical Center.

Borba has since been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and being an unlicensed driver.
