A thief got the cold shoulder from his friends when he tried to involve them in his getaway plan.

Shortly before noon Monday the store security inside the Home Depot at 2800 Countryside Drive tried to stop a would-be shoplifter.

The suspect turned violent and began punching the loss prevention agent and then fled with the stolen merchandise.

The suspect proceeded to run to a car where his friends were waiting, but once they realized he wanted them to aid his escape, they refused to let him in, according to the police report.

With the police en route, the thief had to abandon his plans and the merchandise and make his escape on foot.

The friends remained at the scene and cooperated with the officers. The suspect, who has not been publically named, remains at large and the investigation is ongoing.
