Hilmar theft turns into shooting as suspects flee

The Merced County Sheriff's Department is looking for the theft suspects who fired several shots at an individual following them away from the Hilmar neighborhood where the thefts occurred.

The thefts happened at several homes in the 18000 block of Bradbury Road in Hilmar on the afternoon of Jan. 5. A Ring camera at one of the homes captured an image of one of the suspects and the vehicle they were in. The suspect can be seen taking multiple packages from the home.

As the two suspects drove away from the area, one of the residents began following them, according to the sheriff's department.

At least one of the suspects began to shoot in the direction of the victim while fleeing the area. The victim was not injured.

The suspect vehicle was last seen driving south on Highway 99.
