Leads investigated in Turlock shooting
TPD crime scene

A vehicle driving in the area of C Street in Turlock Monday afternoon was shot at, and investigators are following up some leads in an attempt to identify the shooter.

A Turlock Police detective was driving in the 400 block of Lander Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. Monday when he heard the sounds of gunshots coming from the 600 block of C Street, said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Webb.

The detective saw a silver Pontiac fleeing from the area and followed after it. As other officers arrived a high-risk traffic stop was initiated and the Pontiac was stopped.

It was discovered the occupants of the Pontiac had been the party shot at and not the ones doing the shooting.

However, one of the occupants in the vehicle was found in possession of a firearm. Oscar Raul Vasquez, 21, was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for a probation violation.

Webb said detectives had generated a few leads and were actively following up on them.
