Man arrested at gunpoint
TPD crime scene

Reports of a man walking down a Turlock street armed with a handgun ended with the man’s arrest at gunpoint by the Turlock Police Department.

The suspect, identified as Emanuel Gonzalez, 38, was arrested on suspicion of negligently discharging a firearm and possession of a concealed weapon.

The police department was first alerted to the situation around 9 a.m. Monday when they received multiple reports of a man walking in the 500 block Vermont Avenue armed with a handgun. As officers were responding to the scene, additional calls came in reporting shots fired in the same area, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

Officers located Gonzalez and ordered him at gunpoint to put his hands up and lay down on the ground. Gonzalez did not respond to the order and instead reached into his waistband and pulled out a firearm. He quickly placed the handgun on the ground, Rodrigues said.

He was taken into custody without further incident.

Officers found two vehicles in the area that had been struck by gunfire, Rodrigues said.
