Turlock Police officers arrested a 20-year-old man on allegations he threatened a store clerk with a knife in an attempted robbery.

Just before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday the police department received a report of a man who had just attempted to steal a pack of cigarettes from a convenient store in the 200 block of N. Golden State Boulevard.

The police officers were told the suspect, later identified as Justin Rocha, came into the store and asked the clerk for a pack of cigarettes. The clerk put the cigarettes on the counter, at which point Rocha allegedly brandished a knife that was tucked into his waistband, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The suspect then left the store, without the cigarettes. He was located outside the store, Lewis said.

Rocha was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.
