A Turlock man walking along a rural road in Denair was struck by a vehicle and killed Sunday evening, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deceased was identified as Salvador Gudino, 26.

The collision was reported at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Gratton and Barnhart roads.

According to the CHP, Gudino was in the southbound lane on Gratton Road when he struck by a 2010 Honda, driven by Mary Smith, 76, of Denair. The Honda was traveling at 45 miles per hour as it approached Gudino, the CHP stated.

The impact threw Gudino several feet and he landed in the southbound lane of Gratton Road, near the intersection with Barnhart Road.

Smith stopped at the scene and offered aid to Gudino until paramedics arrived at the scene. He was rushed to Emanuel Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

At this point it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.

Gudino’s family has started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses.

“Our family is in great heartbreak as we have lost our cousin Salvador Gudiño,” wrote family member Sonia Moreno on the fundraising page. “At 26 years old, he was tragically taken yesterday and leaves his mother, father, daughters and many more family members that will miss his great smile and crazy sense of humor. His parents are in desperate need of financial help and We are asking for help, any amount of donation so that we can lay him to rest as soon as possible.
