Turlock Police detectives have arrested a Keyes man on allegations he raped a woman in an industrial area of the city.
The suspect was identified as Victor Cruzgarcia, 34, of Keyes. He has been charged with forceable rape by the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
The alleged rape occurred around 9 p.m. Jan. 16 in the 400 block of D Street, near a cell tower.
The adult female victim was working on her bicycle in the area when the suspect approached her. Initially, the woman though the man she was someone she knew so she spoke with him, but as he drew closer, she realized it was someone she didn’t know and she ended the conversation and started to leave the area, said Turlock Police Sgt. Stephen Webb.
She was pushing her bike along the street when she noticed the suspect following behind her. He came up on her, grabbed the bike away from her and then struck her. He then raped her, Webb said.
The suspect left and the woman made her way home and called the police department. She was able to provide a description of the suspect.
Investigators searched the area and found Cruzgarcia in the area. He matched the description of the assailant and was later identified by the victim as her attacker.
Cruzgarcia was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail, where he remains in lieu of a $110,000 bail. He has a court hearing set for Monday.
