A 33-year-old man and a teenager were arrested Thursday in connection with an armed robbery in Turlock.

In addition to the arrest, Turlock Police officers recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the robbery, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday two individuals entered the Stop N Shop Market at 1590 Lander Ave., and approached the clerk at the counter. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money and cigarettes. The clerk complied and the two suspects fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, Lewis said.

Video surveillance of the robbery was reviewed by Turlock Police investigators and they were able to identify one of the suspects as 33-year-old Jorge David Cardenas.

Investigators tracked Cardenas to a residence on Angelus Street and took him into custody Thursday morning when he left the home with two other males. One of the males was a 17-year-old, who investigators believe is the second suspect from the robbery, Lewis said.

A handgun matching the description of the one allegedly used by Cardenas during the robbery was located in front of the Angelus Street residence.

Cardenas was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, using a firearm during the commission of a robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.

The 17-year-old, whose name was not released, was arrested for robbery.
