An attempted auto burglary turned into a vehicle pursuit that ended with a crash and the arrest of the 19-year-old driver.

Around 2:30 a.m. Friday the Turlock Police Department received a report from an individual reporting two people had just tried to break into his car in the 800 block of E. Linwood Avenue. The caller stated the suspects left the area in an older model white car.

Officers responded to the area and spotted a vehicle matching the description driving northbound on S. First Street. An officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver decided to speed off, according to the police report.

The pursuit ended quickly when the driver crashed into a chain link fence around the Village Food Mart at 1540 S. First Street.

The driver, identified as Grace Yglesias, 19, was arrested on suspicion of evading a peace officer, possession of stolen property, and multiple drug related warrants from Merced County.

The passenger was not arrested.
