Shooter wounds two at Turlock bar
generic crime

Two people were injured from a shooting at a downtown Turlock bar on Saturday.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday at La Cantina at 142 S. First St., the Turlock Police Department reported.

Witnesses at the scene said the suspect in the shooting had been escorted from the bar moments before the shooting, according to the police report.

The suspect fired several shots at the outside of the bar. One of the bullets passed through the building and struck an adult man in the ankle, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley.

An adult woman sustained an injury to her arm that was possibly from glass or a bullet fragment, Parmley said.

Neither of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

Officers found evidence of the shooting at the scene and developed leads as to the identity of the suspect.

The same area was the scene of a shooting that injured an off-duty Merced County sheriff’s deputy in August 2019. The deputy was with three friends outside the bar and was shot by a man who had just exited the bar. The suspect in that shooting was later identified as Osbaldo Gaytan- Mota and an arrest warrant was issued for him on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains at large.
