Teens arrested after rural Ceres shooting, Delhi carjacking

Two Stockton teenagers suspected of shooting at a moving vehicle in the Ceres area of Service and Crowslanding roads and earlier stealing a car in Delhi were arrested by Ceres Police Monday evening.  

Police were notified at 10:56 p.m. about a man standing on the northeast corner of the intersection and taking shots at a vehicle stopped for a red light. The driver fled the area and dialed 911. The occupant was not hit but the vehicle was damaged. 

Officers quickly rushed to the area and Officer Matthew Johnson located two suspects in front of the Stanislaus County Animal Services Agency who matched the description given to dispatchers. Angel Estrella, 18, and a 17-year-old male, both of Stockton were uncooperative and detained.  

Ceres Police Officer Kiashira Ruiz and her K-9 Leo searched the area and found two firearms hidden near the Animal Services building.

Estrella was positively identified by the victim as the shooter. 

Both Estrella and the juvenile also matched the description of the suspects in the earlier carjacking in Delhi. Police located the stolen vehicle in west Ceres where the shots were fired. It was low on gas when stolen. 

The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the case  

Estrella was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm without serial numbers. The 17-year-old juvenile was booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall on the same charges.
