Turlock man dies in freeway collision
emergency

A Turlock man was killed in a collision on Highway 99 in Lodi after losing control of his vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deceased was identified as Giovany Camacho, 20, of Turlock.

Around 1:40 a.m. Jan. 2, Camacho was driving a 2000 Honda Accord northbound on Highway 99. He was just south of the Kettleman Lane exit when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle, according to the CHP.

The CHP report stated Camacho “made an unsafe turning movement to the right and lost control of the Honda.” The vehicle veered to the right and went off the shoulder of the highway, where it struck a tree limb and a fence. The Honda then overturned into a vineyard.

The CHP stated Camacho was driving at an estimated 65 to 70 miles per hour at the time of the collision.

Both Camacho and his passenger were not wearing seat belts, according to the CHP. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and sustained moderate injuries.

Camacho sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed alcohol was a contributing factor to the collision. Anyone with information regarding the collision is encouraged to contact the CHP Stockton Area office at ‪(209) 943-8600.
