The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a Turlock man in connection with a shooting that injured a Delhi man Thursday night.
Investigators with the sheriff’s department have identified 21-year-old Turlock resident Juan Martin Zapata as a suspect in the shooting, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Ed Katen.
Few details about the incident have been released by investigators.
Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday the sheriff’s department received a report of shots fired in the 9000 block of Countryside Drive in Delhi. The responding deputies found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Katen said.
The victim was taken to a hospital in Modesto. Katen said his injuries were considered to be non-life threatening.
It’s unknown what led up to the shooting or how Zapata was identified as a suspect.
Zapata is described as a Latino male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 185 pounds.
Stanislaus county court records show Zapata to be on probation for assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Anyone with information about Zapata’s whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff’s department investigation unit at 385-7472.
