A Turlock man’s drunken argument with a woman led to a multitude of criminal charges after the man drove a vehicle into her.

The suspect was identified by the Turlock Police Department as Anthony Ellison, 29. He was arrested on suspicion of assault by force likely to produce great bodily injury, theft of a vehicle, driving under the influence, attempted auto theft, and resisting arrest.

The incident began around 2 a.m. Friday when the police department was summoned to a home in the 2800 block of Newton Court for a report of a hit and run.

Officers were told Ellison was intoxicated and got into an argument with the victim. Ellison was attempted to leave the residence in a vehicle that did not belong to him and when he was unsuccessful, he tried another vehicle, which also did not belong to him, according to the police report.

The victim attempted to stop Ellison from leaving with the vehicle by blocking the exit path. The police report states Ellison drove at the victim and struck her, causing a non-life threatening injury.

Ellison drove away from the home, but returned shortly thereafter, about the same time that the police arrived at the scene. Ellison fled from the scene, but was apprehended nearby.

Ellison and the victim are known to each other, according to the police department.
