When San Francisco 49ers quarterback and hometown hero Colin Kaepernick kissed his bicep after a touchdown run during the team's NFC Championship season, he started a Niner Nation sensation called "Kaepernicking." Although football season is over, Kaepernick's iconic pose is still inspiring fans.
One of those fans is local designer T. Michael Alcordo, also known as "Kimo."
"I'm a 49er fan; I was challenged to do a 49er water wall," Alcordo said.
He took up that challenge, and months later his 7 foot, by 7 foot steel design water wall featuring Kaepernick is now ready for display. Showings of the water wall are scheduled for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Paul's Glass, 240 S. First St., in Turlock.
Paul's Glass supplied the glass for the piece, as well as the artwork from Jerry Barlow of Artworx.
Paul's Glass owner Patrick Jensen got involved in the project after meeting Alcordo at a local sports bar.
"He came to me with an idea and a frame," Jensen said. "This is the first time we've done a water wall in this portable fashion."
The project was similar to the interior work that Paul's Glass is accustomed to, though, and it wasn't long before the pieces started coming together for the flowing work of sports art.
Water walls are Alcordo's newest passion, but he has decades of experience in interior design concepts.
"My professional ethic is get it done, do it right or don't do it at all," Alcordo said.
