Rachel Finnegan has returned home to Turlock to join the Cal State Stanislaus coaching staff.
A 2009 graduate of Turlock High School, Finnegan has been named as assistant coach by women's basketball head coach Wayman Strickland.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity Coach Strickland and (Athletics Director) Mr. (Mike) Matoso have given me. My goal is to make a difference and assist Coach Strickland into building the women's program," said Finnegan.
Most recently, Finnegan was an assistant coach at California High School in San Ramon. She also worked with the San Francisco 49ers as a guest relations representative.
At Turlock High, Finnegan was a two-time league Most Valuable Player while leading the Bulldogs to two conference championships. She was named to the Cal-Hi Sports All-State team as a senior. In all, Finnegan amassed 1,460 points, 960 rebounds, 600 assists and 400 steals as a prep star.
"I'm very excited to have Rachel joining our staff.  Rachel has ties to the Central Valley, which will aid in recruiting quality student-athletes to our program.  She communicates wonderfully and does an excellent job with player development," Strickland said. "Rachel is a dynamic young coach who is fully committed to seeing our student athletes achieve great success in the classroom, on the court and most importantly in life."
Finnegan played two seasons (2012-14) and appeared in 56 games at Cal State East Bay as she helped lead the Pioneers to its first CCAA tournament appearance during her senior season in 2014.
After her stellar high school career, she spent her first two collegiate seasons at San Jose State, where she made WAC All-Academic team honors twice.
Finnegan obtained her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Cal State East Bay this past May.
