Turlockers Matt Costa and Jeffrey Larson will compete in team roping in next week’s College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., with the event taking place at the Casper Events Center from Monday to June 19. What’s at stake? National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association titles and scholarships.

Costa is the header and Larson is the heeler in the team roping. Both just wrapped up the school year at West Hills College in Coalinga, with Costa now transitioning into his sophomore year and Larson transitioning into his junior year.

This is the 63rd CNFR and the 13th anniversary of the event’s home in Casper. The CNFR features nine rodeo events, including bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, tie-down roping and steer wrestling for the men and barrel racing, goat tying and breakaway roping for the women. Team roping features both men and women competitors.

Each contestant has three preliminary rounds of competition prior to the final round on June 18, with the scores and times from the three rounds to be added up and the top 12 contestants advancing on.
