Turlock High pitcher Carson Gonzales has helped the Bulldogs to an undefeated start this season, winning two of the team’s three games.
The senior left-hander threw four shutout innings in Turlock season-opening 8-6 win over Atwater. Gonzales allowed just one hit, while striking out 10 and walking two. Then, in a 7-0 win over Buhach Colony, Gonzales threw five shutout innings without allowing a hit, fanning 11 and walking three.
At the plate, Gonzales has recorded a hit in each of the Bulldogs’ three victories, going 4-for-9 with five RBIs.
The fast start has fueled his confidence.
“It definitely does,” said Gonzales, a 5-foot-10, 175-pounder. “I’m hoping to take that confidence into (today) for Friday.”
The Bulldogs entertain Lodi today at 3:30, but a sexier matchup could materialize on Friday against Central Catholic, which will throw 6-5, 235-pound southpaw Tyler Paul Wentworth — headed to Clemson on a full ride — in the opener of the Raiders’ tournament at 10 a.m. in Modesto.
“I’d like to pitch against Central,” said Gonzales. “I’d like to test my confidence.”
