Turlock High’s boys and girls were both victorious in the first Central California Athletic League track meet of the season, held at Pitman High School.

The Bulldogs captured the boys meet with 247 points, nearly double the total for runner-up Enochs, with 134. Pitman was third with 130 points, followed by Downey (54), Gregori (40) and Modesto (27).

On the girls side, Turlock amassed 238 points, while Enochs totaled 140. Pitman was third with 118.5 points, followed by Gregori (38), Modesto (36.5) and Downey (29).

Turlock’s Max McFarlane, the reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Masters champion in the pole vault who will attend the U.S. Air Force Academy on scholarship, won three events on the day and very nearly captured a fourth.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior handily won the pole vault with a leap of 15-6, ahead of Turlock’s Justin Strode (12-6) and Pitman’s John Sylvester (11-0).

McFarlane also won the long jump (20-4), ahead of teammate Cash Burton (20-3 1/2), and took the triple jump (42-0), ahead of Enochs’ Marley Okoro (40-5) and Burton (39-7).

In the high jump, McFarlane and Burton each cleared 5-10, as did Pitman’s Jonathan Aho. But Aho took the victory, and denied McFarlane a fourth win — by virtue of having fewer missed attempts.

In the 100-meter dash, Pitman’s Blayne Siebert (10.91) blew away the field, winning by a half=second over Downey’s Carson Lamb (11.41).

In the discus, Turlock’s Lester Stavranoudakis was first with a toss of 154-5, ahead of Enochs’ Logan Edwards (152-0) and Pitman’s Edgard Segura (127-10 1/2).

For the girls, Shaylan Roy-Williams, the section’s reigning long jump champion, won the long jump (17-7 1/2) — ahead of teammates Zoe Lamur (16-7), Cali Brem (16-6) and Elisa Ocegueda (15-1) — and

and the 100-meter dash (12.19), ahead of teammates Olivia Walker (12.75) and Evelyn Ladine (12.96).
