Local artist opens show in Sacramento

Turlock resident and artist John Karl Claes will be showing his latest collection at the Elliot Fouts Gallery in Sacramento.

Claes specializes in paintings that reflect the bountiful agricultural fields of the San Joaquin Valley.

Claes began painting in high school and went on to complete a bachelor of arts at California State University, Stanislaus and then earned a masters of fine arts in painting and drawing from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Since graduating, Claes has received numerous awards, both regionally and nationally. He has shown his paintings and drawings regularly in many solo and group shows.

Locally, some of his works can be seen at the First Street Gallery at 226 N. First St., in Turlock.

The show in Sacramento will be alongside Florida artist Derek Gores.

The show will open Nov. 5 and will run through Dec. 1. A reception is planned from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 12.

The Elliot Fouts Gallery is located at 4749 J St., in Sacramento. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
