Turlock to host second town hall meeting

For the second consecutive year, Turlock will play host to a town hall meeting where residents can speak directly to their elected representatives.

The second annual Turlock Government Night will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Medeiros Elementary School.

“Government works best face-to-face,” said Stanislaus County Supervisor Vito Chiesa. “It’s important that government leaders are accessible and listen to the public we serve.  Government Night has become a tremendous vehicle for the public to meet with their elected officials and let their voice be heard.”

Expected attendees are U.S. Rep. Jeff Denham (R – Atwater), State Sen. Anthony Cannella (R – Ceres), and Turlock Mayor John Lazar.

Last February, Turlock hosted the first Government Night in a packed War Memorial, with more than 300 residents in the audience. Denham, Cannella, Lazar, and Assemblyman Bill Berryhill (R-Ceres) were the featured speakers at that event, where discussion centered largely on state and federal budgets.

Denham, who is seeking reelection this year, commended Chiesa for bringing Turlock Government Night back for a second year.

“This is an important opportunity for local residents to engage with their elected officials at all levels of government. I look forward to a discussion on how we can lower gas prices, put people back to work, and better serve our constituents every day,” Denham said.
